Chawan: Traditional Oribe Tea Bowl, Summer Style
Product Description
This style of Japanese ceramics is one of the most popular. The type of design is called Oribe, and is a form of Mino Yake (ware from the Mino area). The Oribe design is typified by a brown line drawing on a tan background. Part of the bowl is also dipped into a rich green glaze which gives a very contrasting look to the piece.
In the summer, we often offer tea to our guests in a shallow, wide bowl, so that the tea can cool off quickly. This vintage chawan is an excellent example of the summer style of chawan.
