This chawan is a vintage hand-painted tea bowl. It is Kyo-Yaki, which means Kyoto ware. A beautiful Phoenix design is painted on the bowl in blue.
Kyo-Yaki0a is one of Japan's the most traditional wares, which was started around 1590. Kyoto ware items, are typically painted with overglaze enamel pigments. This chawan is made of white pottery, coated with a white glaze, and then pained with a blue phoenix design. It is extremely beautiful, and shows its age very well. The chawan is in excellent condition for the age (no chips or cracks). This bowl's age is about 70-80 years.
